No history of the America’s Cup is complete without mention of the J Class, the magnificent sloops that competed for the trophy in three editions between 1930 and 1937. Names like Sir Thomas Lipton, Harold S Vanderbilt and Sir Thomas Sopwith graced a period that is known as the ‘Golden Age’ of the America’s Cup before the realities of the aftermath of the Second World War, saw the smaller, more affordable 12 Metre Class replace the J Class.

Up on the wind, each day the regatta course will be alike one of this four options.
Walk past the Christopher Columbus statue at the end of the Race Village and the Emirates Team New Zealand base should be coming into view. The holders of the Cup, selected the corner area of Moll de les Dràssanes that leads out to the World Trade Center.
A stroll down the port through the Race village or across the La Rambla del Mar extending bridge leads to the must-see aquarium and a popular shopping mall–the Maremagnum. It is here on this busy stretch where both INEOS Britannia and Alinghi Red Bull Racing have their team bases.
For Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and NYYC American Magic, both teams have opted for bases further around the port on its southern side out towards the W Hotel. The Italians are located on the western end of the port entrance just down from the Barcelona Nautic Center. NYYC American Magic made their new home within the Marina Barcelona 92 superyacht facility with the access off the Passeig de Joan de Borbo.
Orient Express Racing Team, is based on the Moll de Ponent. The area is across the port to the west of the World Trade Center.
Access to the team bases is up to each team, but in any case you can get very close and watch all the action as the teams dock out and in each day.
Women’s and Youth’s teams will be based on Port Olimpic Harbour.
